Ingestion, digestion and expulsion of unpleasant world histories are key to Nancy Baker's work. As an observer of human drama and a part-time purveyor of bad taste, she purposely leads her viewers down a path of aesthetic ambiguity, where nothing is quite as it appears and every battle is meticulously rendered in cartoonish obsession. Drips from various Technicolor birds deliver a puzzling narration; perhaps a bloody painterly response to an oncoming Rapture or other terminal events that some would have us believe is right on schedule.
